Lean Startup Session + Startup Brain-storming - May 18, 2013

A mid-summers afternoon, getting together to brain storm in the shade of the Gulmohar’s didn’t seem like a bad idea for many, with the entrepreneurial craving. The meet-up this time was around the ‘Lean’ strategy and its payback in the projects. Ram, the founder of leanmantra.in, opined that the idea of lean gives the abstract business idea, a concrete shape. A business idea and the projections around it, by themselves are assumptions. And a lean strategy can actually help prove or negate these assumptions. The idea is to build a Minimum Viable Product with the minimum input. A minimum spent around data collection, survey, resource, research, testing et al.

So while working on the business proposition, if it’s taken for granted that we work on the Business model (one with 9 key components) - then lean suggests us to innovate at least at any one step.

And an example to this kind of local innovation is a project by Microsoft. The most sought after MS word was just another software when launched. But MS went ahead and installed it into the systems of the users, which hence made it user-friendly. And bang!!

The discussions then got into brain storming and idea display of a plethora of new start ups, over ginger ale and lemonade. Shravya and her cousing Dhruv are currently working on a prototype of a food rating system. Unlike the current restaurant rating system, this one would rate the very food. So next time you have a craving for Paneer butter masala, you know where exactly to go to. While Vijay and his partner are planning on a portal, which almost looks like an online store. This one,  would help you find stores in your locality as per your requirement.  Then it was Jignesh, who put in all his enthusiasm to pitch in for Dirt 9 and Krishi yatra. He and a group of few other Mechanical Engineers have come up with an intiative, where in, they designed a solar car to cover around 1600 kms of rural AP. Their idea is to get inputs from the farmers and put it into socially usefull projects.

With this we marched towards the formal end of the meetup. However, no body can say ‘Stop’ to the 24 entrepreneurs gathered there -  from meeting new people and learning new things.
And as usual, the surprise stuck at the end. The icing on the cake - WOW Dining cards, for everyone who attended the meetup.

Startup Talks on/from "Food & Internet" Entrepreneurs

Startup Talks on "Food & Internet" Entrepreneurs
This is one of the exciting Meetups  we have organized till date. As many of you know Food & Internet is one of the vast markets available for Entrepreneurs to dive in these days, we invited three Entrepreneurs who are into "Food & Internet Businesses" from Hyderabad to share their views on Food & Internet, its market, the services they are providing, their way of overcoming the obstacles they had faced and their overall experience in the Journey.

The Speakers for this Meetup are as follows:

Sanjay - www.offo.in
Akhilesh - www.letsdine.co
Surendra - www.alongtheway.in
NOTE: All are founders of their respective companies.

Unfortunately Mr. Sanjay couldn’t make up for the event as he was also invited as a speaker for “Entrepreneurship in the Impact 2013”. www.offo.in is an online portal where you can select your favorite restaurant and choose your favorite items from the menu available. They will provide doorstep delivery.

Mr. Akhilesh, founder of
www.letsdine.co, explained how they see the market as general public and cooperates. They want to have Meeting over food at discounted price, the idea is that when people meet over food, they tend to spend more time with each other and interactions with people will happen in a better way. They have conducted 25 events in the last month & they wanna expand to other major cities in India. Akhilesh says that they want to touch the 2000 event milestone by the end of this year.

Mr. Chendu also could not make for the event but we had Mr. Subash from
www.wowdining.com, who is also one of the key persons initially when the company started. Wowdining provides discount cards (quoted Rs.1500/- as of now), which give discounts to many resturants in the City. This is a huge success in Delhi and now they are accelerating in Hyderabad. Mr. Subash says that the card doesn’t have any minimum or maximum purchase limit.

After the talks, we found from Mr. Surendra, the founder of
www.alongtheway.in, that they provide food over travel, a much practical scenario. You can order food from Subway for your wife, Paradise biryani for you, Curd rice for your dad by just making a single call to www.alongtheway.in. He also read the orders he got the previous day which made the crowd a little more excited. He also shared their 30 sec promotional video of www.alongtheway.in which they are revealed in front of a public crowd for the very first time.

After these talks we asked Mr. Jai  Eapen (fortunatly he has come for the event), CEO of
www.gyaane.com to talk about his Entrepreneurial journey. He is welcomed but instead he took another topic to talk which he thought would help the crowd much better and he spoke about the SLP (Startup Leadership Program) for which they gonna open the applications very soon. SLP is a self/community driven group for Entrepreneurs at all stages with enough passion. He says most of the Entrepreneurs who have come there are benefited and he himself got a good mentor & investor for his venture. Two others, Mr. Kiran (Co-founder – www.carrotmobiles.com) & Mr. Surendra (www.alongtheway.in) have also passed out of the SLP who are present in the meetup. In Mr. Surendra’s words, “Entrepreneurship is a lonely journey and you will have similar people around you where you also get an emotional support for your journey to have people to say it is fine and to move on.”

After the talks are done, we played a small networking game. There are papers folded and every three papers have same number. The idea is that everyone has to network with at least two people in the group. So everyone is given those chits and all the people who got same numbers networked, which was fun.

Meet up to talk about a Startup fest to be organised in Hyderabad

Will update content soon.

Startup Talks on "Mobile & Cloud"

3T at Startuptalks – Think, Talk and Take action

This is the 1st Event in Startup Talks. (23rd Feb 2013)

‘Learning, mentoring and networking’ is what most entrepreneurs look for during the initial days in their entrepreneurial journey. This was made possible to entrepreneurs in the Mobile technology and Cloud computing space in Hyderabad on 23rd February, 2013. To make this happen, Startup talks, a Metro Labs initiative has spearheaded the event.

The 3T theme of the event was focused on the spirit “Think, Talk and Take action”. To make this event lively and productive, Startup talks invited developers, startups and freelancers. The agenda was designed for all three communities to participate by speaking about startup experience, motivating other startups, pitching products, ideas and asking for more learning.

Who were the speakers?

We had Satya, Founder of 160by2 a sms distribution and marketing firm who successfully sold his profiteering venture to Way2sms.com. Venkat, founder of aavaaz.com, a listing website, featured to provide authentic user experience and feedback for its customers, to benefit the most. Amit, founder of Xappnut, an innovative app developer. He aims to reach to the masses through Xappnut; providing simple solutions to glaring problems.

The event went pretty well with the active participation of the Attendees.
